RM450mil for agriculture college campus..But Why Now!

The Government has approved RM450mil to build a main campus for Kolej Pertanian Malaysia in Tangga Batu, Kedah, aimed at churning out more skilled and knowledgeable workers for the agriculture industry. What a regretable action indeed........

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said once operational, the new campus would be able to accommodate most of the 2,500 students expected to have enrolled at the college. Kolej Pertanian Malaysia now has about 300 students in seven branches nationwide.
“This is the Government’s way of acknowledging how important it is to have skilled people working for the agriculture and agro-based industry, a sector of the economy that is thriving and has enormous potential. “We hope more young people would be interested in acquiring knowledge on agriculture and making it their profession,” he said at the college’s third convocation ceremony on Monday.

Mustapa said groundwork on the main campus would start in the first quarter of next year and is expected to be completed in three years. He said the college would continue to offer certificate and diploma courses in areas such as food processing and distribution, rearing, aquaculture, farming and marketing.
He noted that degree programmes for such courses were already being offered in several universities.

What really wondering me is why , our early Agriculture College set up in early 60's were dissolved and created our typical University of Agriculture during 70's?....since we transform the nation towards industrial Nation, our late PM then changed it to University Putra. Very wrong and unwised decision as we does not really look it on a long term basis.

Now, all the sudden the idea rise again...the need of Agricultural knowledge suddenly became so important again. If our leaders during that time are really smart, such mistake wouldnt happened on the first hand. Are RM450M is a small amount of money?.......
